BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Neurology was organized in 1946 and this year, 2023, the department turns 77 years old. The founder and first head of the department was Professor Gordon Yakov Yakovlevich, who received his medical education in France at the Faculty of Medicine of the Sorbonne University. From 1966 to 1996, the department was headed by Professor Gordon’s student Ya.Ya. Academician Rakhimdzhanov Abdumannon Rakhmonovich.
From 1996 to the present, the head of the department is a student of academician Rakhimdzhanov Abdumannan Rakhmanovich, Professor Gafurov Bakhtiyar Gafurovich. Currently, the clinical bases of the department are the Multidisciplinary Clinic of the Center for the Development of Professional Qualifications of Medical Workers and the Tashkent Somatic Regional Hospital.
Taking into account the enormous merits of Academician Abdumannan Rakhmanovich Rakhimdzhanov in organizing the work of the department, as well as its clinical bases, in 2005 the department was named after Academician A.R. Rakhimdzhanov. Over the years, the department has trained over 10,0000 neurologists, more than 600 clinical residents, doctoral students and graduate students. Employees of the department have published more than 5,000 scientific works, defended 105 candidate and 40 doctoral dissertations.
The main directions of research work at the department are angioneurology, epileptology, somnology, and clinical vegetology. The department annually conducts from 10 to 14 educational cycles, including advanced training cycles in neurology for GPs, as well as for specialist neurologists on the problems of emergency neurology, epileptology, somnology, angioneurology, vegetology and pathology of the peripheral nervous system. Over the past 7 years, a new cycle “Clinical Stroke” has been included in the curriculum, which has gained great popularity among doctors - neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroreanimatologists, angiosurgeons, etc. More than 600 doctors of all clinical specialties have trained in this cycle.
Currently, 11 clinical residents and 1 doctoral student of the department are studying and conducting research work at the department.

Gafurov Bakhtiyar Gafurovich
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of Department
Head of the department since 1996. The topic of the candidate's dissertation is “Structure of night sleep in cerebral stroke.” The topic of the doctoral dissertation is “Interhemispheric relationships and nonspecific brain systems in cerebral stroke.” Doctoral dissertation defended in 1987 in Moscow. The specialty code for the doctoral (and candidate) dissertation is 14.00.13 – nervous diseases. The academic title of professor was awarded by the USSR Higher Attestation Commission on June 28, 1990 in the department of neurology.
He is the author of more than 1000 scientific publications, including 10 monographs and more than 40 manuals for doctors. Has 6 copyright certificates for inventions.
Member of the Editorial Board of the following journals: “Journal of Neurology and Psychiatry named after S.S. Korsakov” (Moscow, Russia), the Russian version of the American journal “Stroke”, “International Neurological Journal” (Donetsk, Ukraine), the journal “Neurosurgery” and neurology" (Almaty, Kazakhstan), "Medical Almanac" (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia). Deputy editor-in-chief of the journal “Neurology” (Tashkent, Uzbekistan). Chairman of the Association of Neurologists of Uzbekistan. In 2009, he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Health Worker of Uzbekistan”, and in 2014 he was awarded the Order of “El-Yurt Khurmati”. From 2015 to 2018 – deputy of the Tashkent City Kengash of People’s Deputies.

Alikulova Nigora Abdukadyrovna

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor.
Born in 1964. In 1987 she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Tashkent State Medical Institute. From 1991 to 1993 she completed clinical residency training at the Department of Neurology of Tashkent Institute of Ultrasound.
From 1993 to 1996 - graduate student of the department, 1996-1999 - senior laboratory assistant of the department, from 1999 to 2005 - assistant, since 2005 associate professor of the department and since 2008 worked as a professor of the department.
In 1995, as a graduate student, she defended her thesis ahead of schedule on the topic: “Vegetative dystonia syndrome during pregnancy.”
In 2004, she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Clinical and neurophysiological indicators of prognosis and issues of optimizing treatment tactics for ischemic cerebral stroke.”
In 2006, she was approved with the rank of associate professor. In 2022 she received the title of professor.
Author of more than 100 scientific publications, 5 monographs, 16 methodological recommendations for doctors.
Zukhritdinova Dilfuza Ganievna

Candidate of Medical Sciences
Born on June 10, 1963 in the city of Andijan.
In 1986 she graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine of Tashkent State Medical Institute.
From 1994 to 1996 she completed clinical residency training at the Department of Neurology of Tashkent Institute of Ultrasound.
From 1996 to 1999 – graduate student of the department, 1999-2000 – senior laboratory assistant of the department.
In 1999 she defended her PhD thesis on the topic: “Clinico-pathogenetic features of the course of epilepsy in pregnant women.”
From 2000 to 2017, she worked as head of the neurology department, deputy chief physician for medical work at Regional Clinical Hospital No. 2.
From 2017 to the present time he has been working as an assistant at the Department of Neurology of the Central Regional Clinical Medical Research Center.
Author of more than 10 scientific publications, 1 monograph, 2 methodological recommendations for doctors.
Abduzhamilova Rano Mirkhalilovna

Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor
Born in 1971. In 1995 she graduated from the medical faculty of Tashkent State Medical Institute-1. In 1996, she studied at an internship in the specialty “neurology” at City Clinical Hospital No. 15 in Tashkent. From 2004-2006 she studied in clinical residency at the Department of Neurology of Tashkent Institute of Ultrasound. Since October 2006, she has been appointed to the position of assistant of the department. In 2012, she defended her PhD thesis on the topic: “Clinical and etiopathogenetic analysis of hyperkinetic syndromes of the puberty period.” Responsible for educational work. He has more than 30 scientific publications, author of 2 monographs and 2 patents, 1 rational proposal. In 2022, he was awarded the title of associate professor. Currently working on a doctoral dissertation on movement and extrapyramidal disorders.

Doctor of Medical Sciences.
He is responsible for working with clinical residents. Conducts lectures and practical classes. Conducts research work on the problem of cognitive impairment in patients with epilepsy.
